It's rare that I visit deviantArt these days, but I happened to end up there last evening while I was procrastinating over something else, and discovered one of my favorite artists has resumed drawing in HP again after nearly a year's leave of absence. She just posted an absolutely gorgeous portrait of Snape dozing amongst his books, and it's hard to say which is more desirable, Snape or his esoteric collection of magical volumes. As the artist says, it's her fervent OTP. It's elegant and beautifully conceived and shimmering with color; the combination of book-and-Snape lust is quite overpowering.

Insatiable

I urge you to click on the image to enlarge it, because it's even more amazing if you can see the details.

There's also a lovely watercolor portrait of Minerva I just noticed, here:

-- in fandom, I mean, by our various forms of borrowing and transfiguring and paying tribute and catching a spark of inspiration which we then make supremely our own.

Here are two pieces that touch on fics of mine but blossom from there into separate and fascinating life:

The always remarkable [livejournal.com profile] bvizen has taken a scene from my fic "The White Road" and turned it into a thing of wintry, isolated beauty. Snape kneels before his Patronus in a woods covered in shadow and snow, a blue-green stillness deepening to black. The whole thing shimmers with silence and a fleeting sort of peace, and it shapes a fragile moment with infinite care and feeling.

Expecto Patronum by [livejournal.com profile] bvizen

The other I discovered while vanity googling one late, brainless night quite by accident. It's a Snape/Dumbledore vid (yes, really!) set to Marilyn Manson's version of "Tainted Love." Can you see why I might adore this already? The vidder explains her desire to capture a certain dynamic, and credits various fanfics as inspiration, among them "In Infinite Remorse of Soul." It makes me positively gleeful. Especially the shots that show Snape watching as Dumbledore curls his hand around Harry's arm. *shivers*

Tainted Love by MsSardonicus.

Give it a try. It may not, as the vidder says, be everyone's cup of tea, but it's a fascinating use of movie footage.
Twelve minutes before I have to ricochet out into the rain, so excuse the breathless tone. There's a fest currently running on Polyjuice Potion, a Russian-language HP fansite, and the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] kasmunaut has just posted the first half of her translation of The Lost World. Yay! Translation is such a labor of love, and I've been incredibly lucky in this regard. Included is an illustration by the extremely talented John-n-Mary, whose extraordinary and fantastical artwork is available here on DeviantArt. The picture gave me goosebumps the first time I saw it, because the artist emphasizes the disturbing undertones, the combination of seduction and cruelty, that underlie so many fairytales. It's beautiful and strange, and I adore it.

If you want to go directly to the artwork, it's here.

John-n-mary also drew a pencil version of a scene from When the Rose and the Fire Are One, which is equally lovely and disturbing (I guess my preoccupations are showing, eh?)

Please give them a look if you're so inclined. I'd also urge you to browse john-n-mary's gallery. The artist is very gifted, with a remarkable style that weaves dreamlike and folk-tale influences together into images of dark beauty.

*blows kiss to kasmunaut* Thank you both so much, my dears!

For my next act, I'm going to fret briefly about writing as a way to avoid actually working on said writing. Neat trick, eh? But only for those who give a fig. )

First, I suspect that everyone on my flist has already seen this, but I'm so awed by the beauty [livejournal.com profile] ac1d6burn brings to her art - the beauty she persuades us to see in a canonically 'ugly' character - that I must urge you all to go look at her lovely and melancholy depiction of young Severus waving through the compartment window as the Hogwarts train pulls out: 'Bye, Mum. It's a heartbreaker. The boy's teeth slay me. Truly, could he look any more doubtful about his destination?

In case anyone happened to miss Acid's previous illo, about which I cannot rhapsodize enough, go take a look at Dream within a Dream. Click on the image for a larger version, which will give you an even better view of the shades and coloration and sheer exquisiteness of this piece. It is, as the post says, a commission based on Tira Nog's beloved fic, A Nick in Time.

I'm going on a business trip tomorrow, so I'm all a-flutter and bouncing off the walls. But I need to snatch a moment here to rave about the absolute high point of my day and the glorious gift I received.

Please, please, go take a peek at the amazing painting [livejournal.com profile] venturous1 posted earlier as part of the Snarry Games! It's based on the fic I entered in the last round, When the Rose and the Fire Are One, and Ven's done a phenomenal job of cramming passion and vulnerability and blazing color into her fantastic interpretation. The image is beautiful on several levels, and you can read so many things into it: sexual obsession, mortal danger, intimacy and magic. I'm flattered to my toes, and so happy that Ven poured so much talent into bringing my story - and Snape and Harry, regardless of the source - to vivid, exquisite life.

And by the way - don't forget to vote once you've viewed the art! It's a rollicking competition over there between Phoenix and Dragon, and every vote counts!

Okay, all you pervs and art lovers. Get thee to the Snarry Games posthaste, because the first two entries have been posted and they're both, in entirely different ways, incredibly horny-making and artistically delightful and just an amazing pistol-shot out of the gate. I'm bell-ringing my arse off here for [livejournal.com profile] twilightsorcery and [livejournal.com profile] ships_harry because they bring the beauty and the transgression together. Go, drool over shower the artses with some hot audience love!
