I think I may have just written the longest comment in the history of fanfic, or if not, then a strong contender for the title. My blood sugar crashed the instant I finished, so I won't try to talk up the fic here. But dear God, for sheer joy and pleasure in the brilliance of Snarry, go read it. Expect an emotional rollercoaster and revel in it. This is the way a romance between these two should be written.

*shivers* I'm still delirious with excitement. I have more recs, but they will have to wait.

I'm going on a business trip tomorrow, so I'm all a-flutter and bouncing off the walls. But I need to snatch a moment here to rave about the absolute high point of my day and the glorious gift I received.

Please, please, go take a peek at the amazing painting [livejournal.com profile] venturous1 posted earlier as part of the Snarry Games! It's based on the fic I entered in the last round, When the Rose and the Fire Are One, and Ven's done a phenomenal job of cramming passion and vulnerability and blazing color into her fantastic interpretation. The image is beautiful on several levels, and you can read so many things into it: sexual obsession, mortal danger, intimacy and magic. I'm flattered to my toes, and so happy that Ven poured so much talent into bringing my story - and Snape and Harry, regardless of the source - to vivid, exquisite life.

And by the way - don't forget to vote once you've viewed the art! It's a rollicking competition over there between Phoenix and Dragon, and every vote counts!

Okay, all you pervs and art lovers. Get thee to the Snarry Games posthaste, because the first two entries have been posted and they're both, in entirely different ways, incredibly horny-making and artistically delightful and just an amazing pistol-shot out of the gate. I'm bell-ringing my arse off here for [livejournal.com profile] twilightsorcery and [livejournal.com profile] ships_harry because they bring the beauty and the transgression together. Go, drool over shower the artses with some hot audience love!

I've just started (finally!) reading the [insanejournal.com profile] snarry_games fics, so I'm progressing backwards. Or maybe just out of sequence. But the beauty of [insanejournal.com profile] fuschia's fic Playing Azkaban caught me totally off guard. Both in the sense that I wasn't expecting it, and with joy at its sharp, heartfelt language. The extraordinary wealth of detail in this fic summons a lost world vividly to mind and fills it with intense emotion. Or perhaps I should say it fills me with emotion. The writing is chockful of precise, sensual observations, and the mood is urgent, melancholy, slightly twisted and - dare I say it - satisfying. It's an unusual variation on the theme of pensieve memories, and it gave me that sense of closure that canon lacks. Harry has the chance to say what he needs to say, so directly that it will almost make you squirm. For myself? I like to know Harry's capable of transgression. It means he's growing up.

Also, any fic that gives me a glimpse of young!Snape is welcome. There's a bonus in that young!Lily not only appears, but actually wins me over. For perhaps the first time I genuinely regret that Severus lost Lily's friendship, because this fic convinces me, in a very short span of words, that they were friends, close and quarrelsome and well-matched.

I've avoided saying much about the plot, because the fic is short and I don't want to spoil it. But it's so tightly written, and it gets so many things right, and [insanejournal.com profile] fuschia's skill is just breathtaking. Prepare to be a bit sad at the end. It's the sadness of "if-only" and the sense that the fic is handing Harry back to his mundane destiny. But first it gives us a secret glimpse of something that falls between the lines of canon, and I'm very grateful for it.

Read! Vote! The Games are overflowing with wonderful things. I suppose I ought to make the usual disclaimer that I'm a member of Team Phoenix and this is one of ours, but that's not why I'm reccing it. It's simply lovely. Go check it out.
