Drat it all, I'm back to having insomnia and stress dreams and being too empty-headed to make or do things. This saddens me because I was starting to write, to actually think about writing, and now that's gone again. I can only hope the brief spark will return.

Meanwhile I've been drifting through my secondary fandoms, the non-HP ones I turn to when I can't connect any other way. One canon ended this year with an abbreviated season and an unsatisfactory send-off (Person of Interest) and the other is on hiatus (Doctor Who, Twelfth Doctor specifically). PoI gave me a slash and a femslash ship (canon, and frankly, I love everyone in this bar because the cast - including the AI which is only a voice - had amazing chemistry together) and DW gave me the first het OTP I've shipped in … well, I can't remember when. Years.

Of course they both end tragically.

So this is just a pretext for posting two fan vids that reflect the emotional weather around here. They're both about goodbyes (not that I'm personally going anywhere) and the catharsis of sorrow.

The PoI vid is called Light Carries on by eemersonm, and it's set to what must be the current Most Used Song for purposes of fannish vidding, "Saturn" by Sleeping at Last.

The other is under a cut so as not to clutter up your friends view )

I should try going back to sleep now because I have to be officially up in four and a half hours, but I'm doing my best not to disappear from fandom again.

(Also, hurrah - [livejournal.com profile] hoggywartyxmas is coming back for another year!)

-- in fandom, I mean, by our various forms of borrowing and transfiguring and paying tribute and catching a spark of inspiration which we then make supremely our own.

Here are two pieces that touch on fics of mine but blossom from there into separate and fascinating life:

The always remarkable [livejournal.com profile] bvizen has taken a scene from my fic "The White Road" and turned it into a thing of wintry, isolated beauty. Snape kneels before his Patronus in a woods covered in shadow and snow, a blue-green stillness deepening to black. The whole thing shimmers with silence and a fleeting sort of peace, and it shapes a fragile moment with infinite care and feeling.

The other I discovered while vanity googling one late, brainless night quite by accident. It's a Snape/Dumbledore vid (yes, really!) set to Marilyn Manson's version of "Tainted Love." Can you see why I might adore this already? The vidder explains her desire to capture a certain dynamic, and credits various fanfics as inspiration, among them "In Infinite Remorse of Soul." It makes me positively gleeful. Especially the shots that show Snape watching as Dumbledore curls his hand around Harry's arm. *shivers*

Tainted Love by MsSardonicus.

Give it a try. It may not, as the vidder says, be everyone's cup of tea, but it's a fascinating use of movie footage.
I just saw this linked on [livejournal.com profile] counteragent's journal and was quite touched by it. Matt Lewis and his doleful face and his gangly, underdog determination! It was one of the entries at this year's Vividcon, and it's the tale of The Boy Who Was Overlooked (luckily for him).

In other news, I saw a young bobcat in the field this morning. Now there's an orb spider of impressive size positioned directly outside my front window, dramatically silhouetted against the twilight sky. Ah, nature.

I am so lucky in where I live.
